So you want to be a traveling food writer, too.
One of the great joys of this enterprise is the ability to interact and engage with a diverse group of people with unique perspectives on the gustatory experience, and all are welcome to join us. If you feel that you have a documented experience to contibute, the following are some guidelines on submitting your writing for consideration:
- Please submit it as the body of an email–not as a text file, not as a PDF, and most certainly not as any other kind of proprietary word-processor file. If your email has an attachment, it will not be considered at all.
- There are no set requirements for style or length, though we know what we like and that includes significant verbiage to develop an idea but not enough to make it seem a droll exercise in vanity.
- Ensure that the content is appropriate to this forum. We maintain a wide-angle perspective, but certain topics might be better served by other publications.
- Send only completed pieces of writing. Don’t worry about pitching it to us with an abstract–if you want to write about something, write about it.
Now let’s say you have the text of your draft, your contact information, and a brief description of the piece in the body of an email to PublishMyWork@neverendingnoodle.com. Before you send that email, please consider the following:
- All writing that is submitted must be your own. Please attribute your quotes and provide endnotes where appropriate.
- You are expected to collaborate with an editor to prepare your article for publication for as much time as it may take.
- Your article should be accurate. While we trust your memory and ethics as an author, we will double-check the facts.
- It’s your name on the byline. You are responsible (read: legally liable) for what you write. Please take care to avoid libel, defamation, and anything else that might embarrass you.
- If in fact you wish to write without your name on the byline (there are legal and academic exceptions under which we will publish work by a pseudonym), you must still provide your name and contact information to the publishers, just in case.
- You, the author of the work, maintain ownership of the work. We, the Never-Ending Noodle, preserve our right to keep a copy of the work in a digital medium and readily available to the public. Publishing the work in non-digital media will only be done with your consent.
So you want to sell to our readers.
